Current Affairs Group

Group Leader: Alan Faragher

Venue: Lounge Bar of the Tynwald Inn, St John's - refreshments will be available to purchase at members' own cost

This Group has introduced lively but good humoured debate. In keeping with the title of the Group I've sought to commence discussions around topics very much in vogue.

During the 1st session we talked about various aspects of global geo-politics with special consideration of the Palestinian /Gaza situation.

For Session 2 I introduced the phenomena of free speech in higher education institutions. Invariably, during both Sessions, the discussions  took us off in various directions, and as would be expected, the debate naturally widened. There was certainly no shortage of interesting ideas! Thus far,  the criteria of the Group is being well met! Again, as with the Philosophy Group,  discussions filters through to the Manx level. At times one can detect a natural overlap between  both Groups; indeed contemporary political ideology and thought which governs the modern world, is based  on earlier historical and philosophical perspectives.
