Note: We are delighted to say that the group has now reached sufficient numbers and will therefore not be accepting new members at the present time. Increasing membership at present would be detrimental for existing group members. However, watch this space in case circumstances change.

It is easy to start to learn to play the ukulele, it is reasonably affordable to buy and the sound it makes is bound to bring a smile to your face.

So, why not give it a try?

Our friendly group has been going for several years now.  We number over 30 people and our aim is to have fun whilst learning to play this quirky little instrument.

New members, regardless of whether or not they have previous experience of playing, are made very welcome.   We play a wide variety of songs from Buddy Holly to The Beatles, T-Rex to Toploader, jazz standards, country classics, chart toppers and rock ‘n roll anthems.
I think it would be fair to say that we have tunes from every decade in the 20th century so there is bound to be something to suit any musical taste.  We even have a few tunes from this century!  Song sheets are emailed to group members.   You can either print them out or access them electronically on an iPad etc during group sessions.

Our appearance at Peel Cathedral 18th March welcoming the Mars installation. We had 120 people sitting watching us play and singing along to the Mars themed performance. Brilliant for us to be involved in such an exciting project.

We are frequently asked to perform at events around the island. Participation in concerts is optional but greatly rewarding.   Sometimes there is space for the whole group to play, for example on the Queen’s Pier at Ramsey.

On other occasions, at smaller venues, it is more appropriate for fewer of us to play.  Wherever we go we love to see the smiles on the faces of the audience and to know that our hobby can also bring pleasure to other people.

So, what are you waiting for?

You do not need to be able to read music, or even own a ukulele to begin with as we can lend you one to get you started. Just send the group leader an email before you come along.

Finally, if you just love to sing but don’t want to play a ukulele then we are quite happy for you to join our jolly crew and help bolster our vocals!

Concerts, News, etc.

After a very successful concert, a review of the performance appeared in the National u3a Blog. You can read the full report here
