About our Group

We are a sociable, chatty group who are happy to share our collective knowledge and are willing to try out different media, paper, subjects, etc. We also welcome anyone wanting to work on crafts, but you will need to bring your own equipment.
We don't do many "taught" sessions but Di and Glynis are always available to support and give advice and encouragement. Within the group we have some expertise in watercolour, acrylics, pastels and oils. Our favouite subject areas are landscapes, flowers, animals and modern art styles using ply and some unusual paint usage. We are all happy to help and advise as we all started as beginners.
To help boost confidence, Di and Glynis seek out opportunities to show and, maybe, even sell your work! Projects for 2024 have been an exhibition in the "Square" at Castletown and the group will be creating and publishing a calendar for 2025.
If you are a complete beginner - or you've not picked up a pencil since leaving school - don't worry. We'll sort you out with some basic materials and get you started exploring your favourite topics and media.
If you have some skills or been given materials then bring them with you.
New Challenges 2026
The group has taken on 2 new challenges. On Monday 18th May we are going to have a go at mosaics. Great excuse to smash old china and add them to "proper" mosaic pieces purchased from group funds. After TT we are going to try our hand at clay modelling. This is using the DAS clay which doesn't require firing. Should be great fun and a way of introducing more craft into our group. Future plans include microwaved papier mache and of course our 2027 calendar needs to be finalised in June ready for printing. If you fancy joining us get in touch. We are a very busy and active group.
Tynwald Day - Phew!
With a selection of cards, ceramics, pictures and, of course, our 2026 calendar to sell we had a full stall to offer on Tynwald Day on the Tynwald Fairfield. It was hard work as the Gazebo (thanks to Heather and Terry) had to be put up on the Sunday evening. Even harder was being on the field at 8am on Tynwald day to set out the goodies (thanks to Glynis and Di). It was a long day but support was given by Karen and Chris. Although the stall could be dismantled at 5pm no vehicles were allowed on site till 6pm. The remnants were packed up and walked off the field (thanks to Mr Glynis and Mr Di). We did sell over £200 though so most of our members who offered sale items got rewarded. We were also able to raise some awareness of the u3a. Well done us!
En Plein Air - Port Erin Beach Hut, June 2025
It was hardly flamingJune but at least it was dry and not too windy... It was an opportunity for the hardy members of the group to try some outdoor sketching. The beach hut was rented from our group funds and provided shelter and somewhere to leave our lunches. A grand day out!

2025 Calendar
The challenge for our 2025 calendar was to produce a picture that depicted an aspect of Peel and reflected their allocated month. The pictures produced are views, customs and landmarks created using a variety of media. The printers (David Cannell) has done a wonderful job - very professional.
The cost will be £8.50 (including envelope) and can be purchased at the next couple of Network Meetings, at our stall in Peel Hollantide Market on the 16th November or email us using the above link.

September 15th 2024 Peta Mills passed away. Peta has been a member of our Art Group almost since we began. As a complete beginner, Peta developed her own style, colourful and bright just like her personality. She dismissed her work as rubbish but always sold at our exhibitions. She was so friendly and supportive to everyone and its very hard to believe that such a large personality and talented artist has gone. We will all miss her so very much.
